Hareem Fatima on Nearpeer Intermediate (FSc) Common Room
•Optical isomers: that can rotate plan of polarized light . It can be dextrorotatory ( from left to right ) and levorotatory ( from right to left ) •Chiral means the carbon to which four different atoms are attached. •Achiral means the carbon to which four same atoms are attached •Optical activity is shown by chiral as it is non superimposible ( that can't fit above each other perfectly) . •Enantiomers is chiral carbon atom that is optically active. • Meso compound: a stereoisomer that have two similar chiral atoms ( one molecule has two chiral atoms ) and it is optically inactive, it should be optically active as it has chiral carbon atom but it is not because, as In one molecule there are two chiral carbon atoms that will rotate plane polarized light in opposite directions, so they will cancel each other effect and will become optically inactive.
